|Scope & Content||
This is a white envelope printed with a border of red and blue triangles with the rest of the printing in blue. The face of the envelope is printed in portrait rather than landscape direction. At the top is a "Return Address" section. Below this is a 3 1/2" x 2" picture of a gravel road in the mountains labeled "South St. Vrain Highway." Below the picture is a text box which reads: "Longmont, Colorado/ A Hospitable, Progressive City, located in Northern Colorado's rich agricultural section---only 32 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park./ We have: Agriculture, Recreation, Climate/ Longmont Chamber of Commerce/
Below the text is a 3 1/2" x 2" picture of a snow covered moluntain with foothills in front and numerous trees in the foreground labeled: "Long's Peak---From Longmont. There is no space on the front of the envelope for an addressee's name and address.
On the reverse of envelope was printesd landscape with the read and blue traingle border. It has a large square printed in blue ink in the lower left hand corner which reads: "Longmont, Colo. /The Friendly City/" Below this is a drawing of Mmountains with a prop- plane flying over them. In the foreground is an archway reading "Gateway" supported by two stone pillars. Below the arch is text which reads: "To the Nation's Playground National Air Mail Week May 15-21-'38." "Via Air Mail" is printed on the flap of the envelope.
|Admin/Biographical History||National Air Mail Week was a nationwide public relations campaign by the U. S. Post Office to help promote air mail, generate business for the airlines involved and celebrate 20 hears of air mail service. It was held May 15th through 21st of 1938. This envelope was designed and printes by the Longmont Chamber of Commerce.|
